Download: OnePlus 6 and 6T receive OxygenOS 10.3.5 with RAM optimizations, OnePlus Buds support, and more - XDA Developers

Image
OnePlus recently rolled out new OxygenOS updates to the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus 8 family that brought in necessary support for their first pair of truly wireless earbuds — the OnePlus Buds. In a similar fashion, the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T have now picked up a new stable build of OxygenOS that not only enables official support for the OnePlus Buds on the device duo, but also brings over the July 2020 security patches. OnePlus 6 XDA Forums || OnePlus 6T XDA Forums According to a recent post on the OnePlus Community forums, the OEM has started the incremental rollout of OxygenOS 10.3.5 for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. Besides the bump in the Android security patch level (SPL), the update also addresses an issue related to frequent crashing of Google Chrome on these phones. Moreover, the new build of OxygenOS includes a fix for the black screen bug while opening the OnePlus Logkit app. For those not familiar with OnePlus Logkit, it is a handy built-in diagnostic app to colle

[Update: Software fix coming] The OnePlus Nord already appears to exhibit display tinting issues - 9to5Google

Image
It looks like some early OnePlus Nord models are already experiencing display issues including “purple-tint” and off-axis color problems. Reports have already appeared on Reddit and the official OnePlus Forums include early adopters complaining about a myriad of display issues since receiving their OnePlus Nord pre-orders. Owners are complaining that when the AMOLED display brightness dips below 25%, darker portions of the display begin to exhibit color casts or “tinting” towards the lower half of the display. [ Update 07/31 ]: OnePlus has given us an update to confirm that: “We are working on an OTA to address this [display issue].” No word was given on when this might come but with the global launch of the OnePlus Nord due on August 4, those who have pre-ordered and plan on buying at launch will hopefully get an OxygenOS update similar to that seen on the OnePlus 8 Pro to resolve any display discoloration issues. Should you be affected, it may be worthwhile keeping an eye on th

The long-awaited Android Auto update for BMWs is now available - Android Police

Image
Virtually every major auto manufacturer has already incorporated Android Auto into their infotainment systems, leaving BMW as the final holdout. Although the company had claimed in 2017 that it had no plans to add Android Auto to their lineup, it must have changed its mind at some point, because it announced in December of last year that Android Auto would be coming in July 2020. Well, it's July 2020, and I can confirm that BMW has finally made this long-awaited Android Auto update available. I had been waiting for this update since it was announced, and I was reminded of it again when I saw a couple of posts in a BMW Facebook group a few weeks back. These posts were from some 3 Series owners in Europe who had just received Android Auto compatibility. Though I hadn't seen any proof that the update had made its way to the US, and my iDrive system indicated there were no available updates, I made a mental note to have the dealer check for updates the next time I'd bring the

BMW finally rolls out Android Auto, but there are some restrictions - Android Authority

Image
Credit: BMW BMW has made Android Auto available in its cars after years of supporting only Apple CarPlay. The feature is wireless only, at least for now. It’s not certain whether all compatible cars have the feature at this point. BMW has come a long way from the days when it shied away from Android Auto. Android Police has confirmed that, as promised in December, BMW is rolling out Android Auto to compatible cars (more on that in a moment) in July. While the in-car smartphone interface appears to have arrived as early as the start of the month, such as for some 3 Series owners in Europe, it’s clearly available in the US —  AP ‘s Richard Gao got support on his 2020 Z4 after a firmware update. We’ve asked BMW if it can comment on availability, including a timetable for when all eligible cars will get support. There are some caveats. Most importantly, Android Auto on BMWs is wireless only. That limits compatibility to Google Pixel phones (plus a few Nexus devices) a

[Issues acknowledged] Samsung Galaxy Note 8 'no SIM card,' 'no network,' 'no IMEI' reports surface after July security patch - PiunikaWeb

Image
New updates are being added at the bottom of this story……. Original story (published on July 29, 2020) follows: Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 was launched back in 2017 and has since received a lot of love from the company. The device came with Android 7.1.1 out of the box and has since received its two major Android updates, leaving it at Android 9 Pie. However, since it is still within its 3 years of assured regular security updates, the device continues to get updated regularly and most recently, the device has bagged the July 2020 security update. Galaxy Note 8 Reports coming in indicate that this July patch is wreaking havoc to Galaxy Note 8 devices. Countless reports on social media and on Samsung’s community forums are pointing out a bug that is causing the Galaxy Note 8 to lose network and fail to register SIM Cards with a No IMEI error. The reports (1,2,3,4,5) say the update breaks the network making users unable to make calls or use the internet through the mobile networks.

WhatsApp's latest feature is a blessing for every group chat user - The Tribune

Image
Tribune Web Desk Chandigarh, July 30 WhatsApp regularly updates its platform. The news of the company working on bringing multi-device support has spread like fire.  But this latest update takes the cake.   The Facebook-owned messaging application is working on another feature which would make using WhatsApp groups a little less annoying.  According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on a feature called, Mute Always. This feature will allow users to block the exasperating group notifications forever.   Right now, WhatsApp enables users three ways for muting annoying group notifications. This includes eight hours, one week and one year. But now, the company is working on extending this time to block group chat indefinitely. The blog site also shared a screenshot—which shows WhatsApp replacing the one-year option with 'Mute Always' button enabling users to mute unwanted group notifications.  This feature is still in the developmental phase.  However, if you a

Pete Lau drops major hint that OnePlus always-on display coming in OxygenOS 11 - 9to5Google

Image
OnePlus devices have been sorely lacking the always-on display feature for a long time now but as we heard earlier this year, the feature is set to come to a future build of OxygenOS. While there were hints we may see the feature come to a future OxygenOS update, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has teased the inclusion with the Android 11 update. He dropped a big hint over on Twitter suggesting that we will finally see the always-on display option with the OxygenOS 11 update — which will be based upon Android 11. He shared an image that looks a lot like one of the clock-styles from the recently released OnePlus Nord with the words “11 on display.” It’s not exactly subtle but it’s probably the always-on display news that many OnePlus fans have been waiting to hear for some time. Getting information at a glance will no doubt have an effect on battery life but being able to get that key information without needing to activate your display will be a godsend. With Android 11 already being tested

[Update: Now available] BMW is bringing Wireless Android Auto to select vehicles - 9to5Google

Image
As Android Auto continues to improve, the platform has been spreading to more brands. Now, BMW has  finally announced that it is adding support for Android Auto starting in 2020. BMW has supported Apple’s CarPlay for quite some time, but the automaker actually charged users for access to the feature. That fee was removed earlier this month and now, Android Auto is incoming. As  The Verge details, BMW will support Android Auto in all vehicles which support iDrive 7.0. This includes 2019 and 2020 3 Series, 5 Series, 7 Series, and 8 Series vehicles. 2019/2020 X3, X5, and X7 SUVs, as well as the 2020 X6, will also support Android Auto. A spokesperson for BMW says that “Apple CarPlay was our main focus” because “a majority of our customers were using iOS mobile devices.” Customer demand led to this announcement, though. However, there is a caveat to BMW’s Android Auto support. It will  only support the Wireless version of the platform which restricts the platform to users with Pixe

Always-on display for OnePlus phones could be just around the corner - Android Police

An always-on display setting is perhaps the most sought-after software feature, and it even topped OnePlus’s crowdsourced suggestions for OxygenOS, following which, the company decided to greenlight it. With the IDEAS campaign coming to an end, OnePlus has shared a timeline for AOD's projected arrival. From around 5,000 ideas submitted throughout the campaign period, the company has picked just five, of which only the always-on display feature is already in development. OnePlus says that the initial work will be completed by the next month, and after that, the feature will undergo testing in two beta stages. The manufacturer aims to conduct the clo

Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Android 10 update rolling out in Europe - PiunikaWeb

WhatsApp multi-device feature enabled in latest Android beta, supports up to 4 devices - Digit

WhatsApp is planning to roll out multi-device support. The news has been doing the rounds for quite some time now, and according to a new report, the feature could be called ‘Linked Devices’, where users can add a linked device by using unique codes generated by the app. The report comes courtesy the alert folks at WABetaInfo, who in a recent tweet claimed that multiple device support will require the user to enter their mobile number and a code they will receive as an SMS. This additonal code needs to be entered in the new device that you may want to link to your account. WhatsApp multi-device support is enabled in latest Android beta It’s essentially the same process that one goes through when logging in to WhatsApp on a new device. However, instead of WhatsApp not working on the older device, now both devices will be able to send and receive messages simultaneously. The latest WhatsApp beta for Android devices have the new Linked Devices feature, and once it passes the beta test

[Update: Even more renders] Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 press renders and Tab S7+ live images leak - 9to5Google

Image
Ahead of the late 2020 Unpacked event, yet more information and details have been leaking on the internet. The latest are renders of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7, while the Tab S7+ has cropped up in live images. First, OG leakster Evan Blass has been drip-feeding tech over the last week or so. His latest leak includes renders of the upcoming Galaxy Tab S7. It’s nothing more than a glimpse at the front of the display, which shows a uniform bezel on all sides of the upcoming Android tablet. We can’t glean a great deal from the solo render shared, but it looks as though the Tab S7 will follow the same design language of previous Galaxy Tab hardware. Previous rumors suggest that the Tab S7 series will come with some impressive internals. Expect to see the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ chipset, between 6 and 8GB of RAM, and 128 and 256GB of internal storage. 45W charging will also be available for super-fast battery top-ups. While the press renders were a nice bonus, thanks to South Korean r

Dropbox declares end of support for Android 4.4 KitKat and 5 Lollipop - Android Police

Image
It's always admirable when a developer supports older operating systems; but there comes a time of diminishing returns when the effort to keep software working on old versions becomes disproportionately expensive compared to the ever-dwindling number of decrepit devices that still use an app. Such is the situation with Dropbox, which just declared the end of support for Android 5.x and older. The message above was recently posted with the release of v198.2.2, confirming Dropbox will not be releasing any more updates with support for Android 4.4 and 5.x. It goes on to suggest upgrading to Android 6 or later — of course, most people probably would have done that already if it were an option. Dropbox stopped sending out updates supporting 4.4/5.x with the release of 190.2.2 back on May 19th. Every release after that, and some of the betas released up to that time, were set to require Android 6.0 Marshmallow and above. Since Android 5.0 Lollipop was released just over six years a
