Samsung now updates Android for longer than Google does - Ars Technica

Image
Ron Amadeo reader comments 114 with 87 posters participating Share this story Samsung is upping the ante on Android updates and offering four years of security updates on many of its Android devices. The company's full update package is now three years of major OS updates and four years of security updates, besting even what Google offers on the Pixel line. In the announcement, Samsung says, "Over the past decade, Samsung has made significant progress in streamlining and speeding up its regular security updates. Samsung worked closely with its OS and chipset partners, as well as over 200 carriers around the world, to ensure that billions of Galaxy devices receive timely security patches." Samsung has experimented with bringing four years of updates to its own Exynos SoC devices, but now it looks like the company is getting Qualcomm models on board as well. Keep in mind that these are not necessarily monthly security updates. Samsung says it's delivering

Samsung’s recent Galaxy devices will now get at least four years of Android security updates - The Verge

Image
Samsung has announced that it’ll be extending the amount of time that its Galaxy smartphones and tablets will be getting security updates. Now, devices released from 2019 and onward will receove at least four years of security updates. Previously, Samsung offered either monthly or quarterly security updates for at least the first two years of a device’s life span, the frequency of which is determined by the device itself. More premium phones like the Galaxy Note or Galaxy S lines get monthly updates, while budget-friendly models like 2020’s Galaxy A71 5G get quarterly updates. Samsung also drops some of its higher-end devices down to quarterly updates after a certain point in time, like the Galaxy S8 lineup. It’s important to note that Samsung is only promising four years of “regular security updates,” which is actually Samsung’s lowest tier of update frequency, reserved for devices that it still supports but without the promise of a monthly or quarterly cadence. Still, the new anno

Here's when your phone or tablet will get Android 12 - Android Police

Image
Article Contents Google only released Android 11 a few months ago, but the company is already hard at work on the platform's next yearly upgrade. It's sometimes difficult to figure out which phones and tablets will be eligible for future Android OS updates, so in this roundup, we'll tell you when (or if) you can expect Android 12 on your device. Most device makers don't say which phones or tablets will get the next Android update until after Google has already released it. In some cases, manufacturers still stay quiet after that point, leaving device owners in the dark. That's usually not a good omen for future support, but there have been cases of phones and tablets suddenly receiving an Android update with no prior warning. Few companies have already said their update plans for Android 12, but we can make educated guesses for the rest of them. Samsung's update plans for its phones were always a bit nebulous, especially for its budget phones, but that f

Samsung Galaxy A51 One UI 3.0 (Android 11) update rolling out in India - PiunikaWeb

Image
This year Samsung appears to be taking software updates a lot more seriously than it did in the past. At the time of writing, a bunch of phones from the OEM have already been updated to Android 11. Earlier, the company would be lagging behind most other OEMs with major OS updates. Hence this is a step in the right direction for the South Korean giant and we only hope things get even better from here on. Galaxy A51 Most recently, Samsung rolled out the Android 11-based One UI 3.0 update for the Samsung Galaxy A51 5G and Galaxy A71 5G in the U.S. The 4G variant of the Galaxy A51 also picked up the One UI 3.0 update not much long ago in some regions. And now, it seems Samsung has started sending out the One UI 3.0 update to Galaxy A51 users in India. It has been captured on a couple of Samsung-dedicated firmware pages (1, 2) with the build number DUB1 and the February security patch. We haven’t yet gotten our hands on any screenshots of the software update from users confirming th

Reminder: Your Galaxy S10 series phone will get the Android 12 update - SamMobile

While getting a new phone can be fun, not everyone likes upgrading their phone every year or two. For those who hold on to their phones for longer, Samsung announced last year that it would be providing all of its flagships and some mid-range phones launched in 2019 and later three major OS updates, changing its long-standing policy of only providing two Android version upgrades to all of its devices. The Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ received the Android 11 update in early January, and owners of these devices have been wondering whether this will be the last major update or if they will be getting Android 12 later this year/early next year. Well, we wanted to remind you that yes, the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+  are  eligible for the Android 12 update and Samsung’s new software update guarantee. Galaxy S10 owners are eligible for Android 12 update That means if the latest software is important to you, you don’t need to upgrade to any of the new Galaxy S21 smartphones, even i

The best smartwatches for Android you can buy today [Update: February 2021] - 9to5Google

Image
Finding the right smartwatch can be very difficult on Android, especially with so many options out there. If you’ve been trying to find the right smartwatch for your wrist, these are the best Android smartwatches you can buy today. BEST ANDROID SMARTWATCHES – February 2021 New this month: Fossil Gen 5 LTE Montblanc Summit Lite Samsung Galaxy Watch 3/Galaxy Watch Active 2 The closest you can get to the Apple Watch The somewhat sad truth about smartwatches on Android is that, no matter how hard all of them have worked, they aren’t as good as the Apple Watch. However, Samsung’s current crop of watches gets you about as close as possible with the Galaxy Watch Active2 and Galaxy Watch 3. Why these are the best smartwatches for Android: Samsung’s Galaxy Watch series doesn’t actually run an Android-based OS. Rather, Samsung’s Tizen runs the show. It’s a slick operating system that’s designed with the hardware in mind, meaning the two feel cohesive together. The two watches diffe
