Image
While dozens of Samsung devices have already received the July 2021 security update, the Galaxy J8 is just now getting the June 2021 security update. However, the mid-range smartphone was released in 2018, and it is now three years old, and it is heartening to see Samsung updating once every few months. If you haven't received it yet, you can check for the update manually by navigating to Settings  » Software update and ta

I stopped looking at my phone every time I was waiting for something – this is what I learned - The Guardian

I t's hard not to feel personally attacked by some research (does that make me a raging narcissist? Probably). With crisps and now sitting down recently ruled empirically bad, it seems science is coming for everything I hold dear. Now, my one true love is being targeted: staring at my phone. A new study, discussed in the excellent Techno Sapiens newsletter, explored how using your phone to avoid stranger awkwardness makes you feel "worse than if you didn't". For the research, 395 strangers were split into groups and asked to wait together for a (pretend) test. Half had phones, half not, and participants assessed how they felt at five-minute intervals. The researchers' theory was that non-phone people would enjoy their time more, but that the digital comfort blanket would feel better in the short term. That was wrong. "Phones failed to confer any detectable benefits." Even in the first five minutes, non-phone users were happier. "People may be acting

SD Maid terminated from Play Store due to 'Stalkerware policy' - Android Police

Image
There is an invisible war on the Play Store, with Google constantly removing all kinds of rogue apps that distribute malware, deploy phishing or fraud schemes, or offer apps for malicious use cases like stalking. Unfortunately, legitimate apps fall victim to these automated systems far too often, and developers rarely have a fair chance to appeal the decision, with only few humans involved in the process on Google's end. The latest renowned app to fall victim to these automated processes is SD Maid, a well-regarded cleaning app that keeps your storage free from junk. It's suspended under Google's Stalkerware policy. SD Maid developer "darken" took to Reddit to make the situation public. They explain that they received two emails in quick succession for both SD Maid 1 and SD Maid 2, stating that the apps were suspended and removed from the Play Store for violating Google's "Stalkerware policy." About 15 minutes after
