Samsung Galaxy S9 / S9+ & Note 9 One UI 2.0 (Android 10) update coming to Canada on March 09 - PiunikaWeb

Image
Samsung Galaxy S-series and Note series were the first ones to pick up the One UI 2.0 updates ( for obvious reasons ). Matter of fact, 2018 launched Galaxy S9/S9+ and Galaxy Note 9 has been served with the Android 10 update in the US. Major network carriers in the US, like Sprint, Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile have already pushed in the Android 10 updates for the Galaxy S9 series and Note 9. In the middle of this, the Korean manufacturer is still working pretty hard in providing the One UI 2.0 (Android 10) updates for its other compatible devices. According to the list shared by Samsung about the One UI 2.0 (Android 10) update roadmap, we can see quite a bunch of phones, still waiting in the pipeline to get served with the Android 10 update. On the other hand, the updates for Galaxy S9 and Note 9 are yet to completely arrive in Canada. Cut to now, in a recent development, one of the major Canadian network providers, Telus, has updated its update schedule page. According to the

WhatsApp dark mode feature: How to enable beta version - Livemint

WhatsApp has been testing beta versions of the dark mode feature on both Android and iOS smartphones for quite some time now. Although these features are currently not available for users in a stable update and the popular social messaging app has not officially announced any update, chances are they might roll out globally soon. To recall, the WhatsApp Dark mode feature has been in the news for more than a year now. Several reports, tweaks and blogs have been giving repeated updates as and when the social messaging app releases even a tiny feature remotely related to the dark theme, but these have always remained unstable and just build up on the hype of inching closer to the theme, until the beginning of this year. In January, WABetaInfo, a blog that tracks WhatsApp developments stated that the social messaging app was finally releasing a more stable release of the beta version for its users. Available in Android Beta version, you can use the feature right now. All you need to d

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 won't be upgraded to Android 10 - PhoneArena

Image
Despite the fact that Samsung's support reps said numerous times in the past that the Galaxy S8 and/or Note 8 will be updated to Android 10, the South Korean company finally confirmed that these two flagships won't receive any new OS updates beyond Android 9 Pie. What's worse is that we wouldn't have hoped to get Android 10 on these phones if not for the confusing information relayed to customers by Samsung officials. It's sad that neither of these phones will receive another Android OS update, but it's not unexpected considering they were launched on the market three years ago. The folks at SamMobile report Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S8 and Note 8 will not be receiving Android 10 and One UI 2.0. Of course, both will continue to get security updates, but we don't expect anything major for these particular models. There are probably a lot of people still using either of the two flagships, which will now have to upgrade to a newer phone if they want

Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update escapes China - GSMArena.com news - GSMArena.com

Image
The Redmi Note 8 Pro has been running the latest MIUI 11 for a while now, and yet everywhere across the world except China it's still been based on the rather ancient Android 9 Pie. An update to Android 10 has been in the works for months for global Redmi Note 8 Pro models, but for some reason it took this long to actually start rolling out. Don't get the champagne out yet, though. For now, a new update for the Redmi Note 8 Pro bringing Android 10 to the immensely popular mid-range device, is only going out in Pakistan, seemingly. It's unclear how long it will take for us to see it in other markets - but at least it's not constrained to China no more. This update is MIUI 11 v.11.0.2.0.QGGEUXM, which arrives over-the-air as a 1.9GB download. It brings with it the February 2020 security patch level too, as well as increased overall system security and a localized payment security icon for India. That's what the changelog notes, but there is some weirdness here. Fi

Lynn Evans Mand, Singer of Hits With the Chordettes, Dies at 95 - The New York Times

Image
Lynn Evans Mand, who was plucked from obscurity to become the lead singer of the Chordettes, performing with them during the height of their fame in the 1950s and ’60s on songs like the instantly recognizable hits “Mr. Sandman” and “Lollipop,” died on Feb. 6 at a care facility in Elyria, Ohio. She was 95. Her grandson Robert Evans II said the cause was a stroke. The Chordettes began in the 1940s in Sheboygan, Wis., as an all-woman barbershop quartet. They appeared regularly on Arthur Godfrey’s popular radio and television shows. In 1953 Ms. Evans, as she was known at the time, was a case worker for the Red Cross and sang with an amateur barbershop quartet in Youngstown, Ohio. One day the Chordettes came through town for a performance, and Ms. Evans had a chance to sit in. The members of the group were so impressed with her voice that when the time came to replace one of the original Chordettes, Dorothy Schwartz, who was leaving to have a child, Ms. Evans was asked to audition fo

Spanish Restaurant Ernesto’s Serves a Glorious Mutton Chop - Eater NY

Image
When my bosses at Eater send around their annual December email asking for the biggest dining surprises of the year, I already know what to tell them: That Ernesto’s , chef Ryan Bartlow ’s hip Basque spot on the Lower East Side, is selling a gloriously fatty mutton chop. Chic new restaurants in the city don’t sell mutton chops; they sell burgers. Restaurants that sell mutton chops are called Keens, and Keens, which opened in 1885, hasn’t really sold definitive mutton, the meat of an older sheep, for quite some time. It serves older lamb, aged about 10 months to a year before slaughter. Mutton is a staple of cuisines throughout the world, including British, Middle Eastern, and Chinese. But the meat, found on hundreds of New York menus in the early 1900s, fell out of favor as the U.S. cattle industry boomed in the mid-20th century — and as soldiers returning from World War II grew tired of canned mutton rations and their pungent, musky flavors. To this day, subtler strains of beef are

[Update: T-Mobile S9, Note 9] Galaxy S9 Android 10 update rollout begins, starting with US and Germany - 9to5Google

Image
After some hints, an updated roadmap, and extensive beta program, the Android 10 update is now rolling out for the Samsung Galaxy S9 with Germany and those on Verizon’s Xfinity network in the US first in line. The update brings with it the stable One UI 2.0 update which we’ve taken a closer look at on the Galaxy Note 10+ in recent weeks. Considering that a very recent roadmap hinted at a February release in the Netherlands, getting Android 10 a few days early feels like a gift. Update 02/25 : Right off the back of the Verizon update, T-Mobile has begun seeding their own Android 10 updates for the Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note 9. The un-carrier confirmed the rollout in three separate posts for each device. Now might be the time to check if you have the OneUI 2.0 update waiting to be installed. Firmware versions G960USQU7DTA8 and G965USQU7DTA8 are heading out for the S9 and S9+ respectively, while the Note 9 is now receiving firmware version N960USQU3DTAA. The update also includes the

Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update global rollout a step closer - PiunikaWeb

Xiaomi has a new Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update rolling out in China as MIUI 11.0.2.0.QGGCNXM. This is the second Android 10-based MIUI 11 ROM for this device following the release of the first ROM last month. To recall, China got Android 10 beta on the Note 8 Pro towards the end of last November. It took Xiaomi a little over a month to test and release the new OS for this device in stable, but the company has been unable to replicate this on a global scale. Redmi Note 8 Pro The incoming Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10 update is still limited to select units as the beta stable version, with the wider rollout expected to follow suit in the coming days. Xiaomi hasn’t attached the changelog to the announcement post, but it’s likely to include a new Android security patch alongside some performance optimizations and bug fixes. (Source) Speaking of which, Xiaomi promised to enable Widevine L1 support for HD streaming on Netflix and Amazon Prime with the Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 10

WhatsApp dark mode gets a new feature in the latest beta update - Hindustan Times

Image
Dark mode on WhatsApp is still the buzz even though it is yet to be available for all users. WhatsApp is still working on dark mode before it rolls out the stable version. A new update for WhatsApp beta on Android brings more solid colours for dark mode. WhatsApp beta update 2.20.60 version comes with the new feature for dark mode, as spotted by WABetaInfo. This update essentially adds more dark solid colours for chat wallpaper on WhatsApp. Shortly after rolling out dark mode for Android, WhatsApp introduced dark solid colours for a better dark mode experience. This made sense too because the light solid colours didn’t go well with the dark theme. WhatsApp beta users can now try out more options for dark solid colours as chat wallpapers. Users can find this under Settings > Chats > Chat Wallpaper > Solid Colours. This update also brings a new preview for chat wallpapers. Now WhatsApp will show a preview of the dark and light solid colour of the same shade. Users can now see

Google updates Android Studio: IDE like multi-display support and a split-view designer - The Register

Image
Microsoft Surface Duo in mind? Google has released Android Studio 3.6 Hands On Google has updated Android studio with support for multiple virtual displays, a new split view for the layout designer, and view binding to make it easier to interact with GUI components. “As more devices are available that have multiple displays, it is important to test your app on a variety of multi-display configurations,” says the announcement of Android Studio 3.6. Google likely has in mind Microsoft’s dual-screen Surface Duo, expected later this year. Multi-display support is a feature of the emulator, and you can now define up to 4 virtual displays, provided you choose Android 10 or higher, via a new Displays option in the emulator’s advanced controls. The emulator has also been enhanced with Google Maps integration. The emulator supports up to four virtual displays Android Studio has a visual GUI designer based on Android Jetpack and its XML-based layouts. In the new update, there is a S

WhatsApp for iOS to get a new look soon: Check out the details - India Today

Good news for all the WhatsApp users as the app is all set to get a makeover soon. And no! We are not talking about the dark mode. A recent leak has revealed that the Facebook-backed company is planning to revamp the entire app but it would be only available for the iOS users and not for the Android users. WABetainfo revealed that WhatsApp is currently working on presenting a whole new app for iOS users. There is no clarity whether the Android users will get to experience the revamped app or not. The leak by WABetainfo showed long-press/ slide options on every text. A shortcut to star mark, forward, reply and copy messages will also be present. These options will be presented to users in a drop-down menu. Just like the dark mode, the revamped app will be first available to all the beta users. In a tweet, WABetainfo revealed that the update will be first available to 2.20.90 beta version. The dark mode is currently available on the version 2.20.30.25 on iOS. WhatsApp is yet to officia

T-Mobile Galaxy S9’s update to Android 10 has been paused - TmoNews

Image
A few days ago, T-Mobile said that its Galaxy S9 and S9+ were starting to get their Android 10 updates. Fast-forward to today, though, and those updates have put on hold. T-Mobile has refreshed its Galaxy S9 and S9+ support pages to say that their Android 10 updates have been “temporarily paused”. Both updates now have a released date of TBD, and T-Mo says that they’ll be “available soon”. There’s no mention on the support pages about why these updates have been paused. I’ve reached out to T-Mobile for more info and will update this post if I hear back. This news is probably frustrating to T-Mobile Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners that’ve been waiting for their update to Android 10, especially since Galaxy S9 models on other carriers have already been updated. T-Mo says that these updates will resume their rollouts “soon”, so hopefully this pause doesn’t last long. Sources: T-Mobile Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+

Xiaomi discloses kernel source code for Mi A2 Lite Android 10 and Redmi 8A Pie releases - Gizchina.com

Image
Xiaomi announced the Mi A2 Lite and Mi A2 smartphones back in May 2018. The two handsets came with the hard task of surpassing the success got by the Android One smartphone Mi A1. Both devices came with competitive specifications and an affordable price tag. Along with these specifications, the company offered the 2-year update support. A guarantee in Android One devices. The duo came running Android 8 Oreo and was eventually updated to Android 9 Pie a few months later. The history was rather different from the Android 10 update. Xiaomi took 4 months to deliver Android 10 to the Mi A2 after the official release. The Lite, unfortunately, has yet to receive the latest version of the OS. Although there’s still no confirmation from Xiaomi regarding the update, the Android 10 kernel source does indicate that work is being done. Worth noting, that even the most recent Mi A3 had its Android 10 update delayed because of the Coronavirus outbreak. We can assume that the Mi A2 Lite development

T-Mobile makes Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+ users angry with Android 10 update delay - PhoneArena

Image
Samsung has been incredibly quick to push the latest OS update to the US unlocked variants of both its 2019 and 2018 flagship handsets, but while the same can be said about America's top wireless service providers as far as Galaxy S10 and Note 10 rollouts are concerned, things aren't going quite as smoothly for the Galaxy S9, S9+, and Note 9. US carriers have needed a little more time to start delivering their Android 10 goodie packs to these 2018-released powerhouses, and one mobile network operator in particular appears unable to properly convey status reports and schedules to its customers for some reason.  The only problem is the over-the-air rollouts never actually began as far as we can tell. After a few days of reportedly instructing some S9 and S9+ owners to perform factory resets while simply telling many others they were looking at a phased rollout scheduled to be completed by March 6, T-Mo quietly revised its support webpages to essentially confirm the updates are
