What is the Lollipop Zoom game?

Take This Lollipop, better known online as the Lollipop Zoom game, is an interactive short film that makes it seem as though you’re on a video Zoom call, but it’s far from your ordinary work meeting.

The experience takes you into a Zoom-like chat, where you sit there and watch as every member of the call is taken down by an online stalker. It’s like watching a film, but a more immersive experience as it’s like you are actually on the call with these people.

If you want to give it a go now that you’re a little more clued up on what you’re letting yourself in for, then visit this website to play the Lollipop Zoom game.

Who started the Lollipop Zoom game?

The Take This Lollipop game that’s going viral in 2020 is actually a sequel to one that existed back in 2011.

At the start of the decade, a Facebook app with the same name became really popular on the internet. It’s aim was to take a user’s personal information from their Facebook profile and used it to make them the star of a horror movie.

It was written and directed by Jason Zada and starred actor Bill Oberst Jr. as a creepy stalker.

The title is a reference to the 1963 song Please Little Girl, Take This Lollipop, representing a well-known warning that children should not take candy from strangers.

Take This Lollipop is about the dangers of the internet

The Lollipop Zoom game isn’t just a scary challenge that everyone’s doing on TikTok, it actually has a much deeper meaning.

Jason Zada designed Take This Lollipop to show users about the dangers of the internet and social media.

In the 2011 version, Bill Oberst Jr. plays ‘The Facebook Stalker’ who was created to warn people about the consequences of posting too much personal information online.

The 2020 version spreads another important message, this time about the dangers of webcams.

As reported by Rolling Stone, Jason Zada said:

“AI and deep fakes are so powerful now. Presidents, celebrities, and athletes have been deep faked. The first Lollipop warned people of the dangers of sharing personal information online. Now we want to show the world how someone can actually become you.”
